As someone who has always worked with my hands and from life, sculpture had been a relatively recent endeavour. The first sculptures I made were of figures and animals when I was very young. As my way of seeing the world developed, through study and drawing, so did my ability to apply and express this new knowledge and understanding.

The first real, evocative and feeling sculpture I made was immediately after my mentor, Michael Howells, died. Created from photo reference, this work has been cast many times for Michael’s friends and family.

The motivation behind wanting to capture and immortalise the passing beauty of my friends and family was a clear moment of introspection.

Simply put: “If I was hit by a car and was dying, what would I regret?”

The answer: “Not pursuing sculpture.”

Ever since, I have dedicated myself to sculpting, to capturing likenesses of my sitters, to portraying the beauty of my sitters and to enshrining the characters and spirits of my loved ones. I intend to create sculptures until I die.

Trained at Wimbledon college of the arts London, though my aptitude for 3D design and sculpture came from a much earlier age. My introduction to sculpture; like with so many people, was through my parents. My mother a portrait painter first showed me the portrait works of Augusta Savage, Jacob Epstine and Augustine Rodin and inspired me to create a bust on Michael Howells; My late mentor. Sadly Michael died suddenly and unexpectedly and my first bust was as a response to his passing and then from there I went on to create sculptures of intriguing individuals always hoping to capture some element of their past or current struggles and to create something for the good of the community they inhabit and wherever possible for posterity.
